Role overview This role focuses on implementing and shaping web standards inside large, open-source browser engines, working directly with standards bodies to design and test new specifications. It is a systems-level engineering position that blends C++ implementation work with consensus-driven collaboration across companies and communities. The role is well suited to engineers who care about the long-term evolution of the web platform and enjoy working at the intersection of compilers, networking, and standards.
Responsibilities - Implement web standards in major open-source browser engines. - Participate in standards work, including writing and testing new specifications with standards bodies. - Develop and maintain systems-level code primarily in C++. - Build consensus among collaborators across organizations and working groups. - Communicate design rationale and trade-offs effectively in writing and discussion.
Requirements - Solid communication skills and the ability to seek consensus among different parties. - Willingness to work in systems-level languages, especially C++ (prior experience not required). - Comfort engaging with a globally distributed, collaborative team.
Nice to have - Experience with the web platform, multimedia, embedded devices, compilers, or networking. - Background in systems programming or browser engine internals. - Prior involvement with open-source communities or standards processes.
