Role overview This role focuses on advancing the state of the art in JavaScript engines and runtimes as part of a distributed Web Languages team. The work spans compilers, language runtimes, and standards advocacy across several major open-source projects. It is a highly collaborative position that combines implementation, maintenance, and participation in the broader web standards ecosystem.
Responsibilities - Contribute to major JavaScript engines such as V8, JavaScriptCore, SpiderMonkey, and Node.js. - Help standardize and implement language features, including recent additions like BigInt, Temporal, and new class semantics. - Develop WebAssembly support in web engines, for areas such as exception handling. - Maintain embedded-engine support and improve V8 performance, memory safety, and traceability inside Node.js. - Improve ES Module loading interoperability to accelerate ecosystem adoption. - Participate in specification work, tests, and standardization advocacy for programming languages.
Requirements - Comfort working in C/C++ on systems-level codebases. - Willingness to learn compiler and runtime internals; prior engine experience is not required. - Ability to collaborate across time zones with a globally distributed team. - Clear written communication for design discussions, proposals, and reviews.
Nice to have - Prior contributions to JavaScript engines or other large open-source projects. - Familiarity with WebAssembly features, module systems, or language standardization processes. - Experience with embedded runtime targets.
