Senior Manager, Database Platform

Role overview

A fast-growing, remote-first cybersecurity organization is hiring a Senior Manager to lead its Database Platform engineering team. The group owns the data infrastructure behind an autonomous penetration testing product that scans millions of assets and produces tens of millions of vulnerability findings for enterprise and government customers. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, partnering with a Principal Engineer to grow a roughly eight-person team into a fully staffed, world-class data platform organization.

Responsibilities

- Lead hiring, mentoring, and onboarding for the Database Platform team, establishing engineering norms and a culture of ownership over the most critical data layer in the stack. - Partner with the Principal Engineer to set technical direction, including schema design standards, query patterns, migration strategies, and scalability principles. - Own SLOs for database availability, query latency, and data integrity across production environments, and drive oncall maturity and runbook quality. - Establish schema review processes and data modeling standards so the data model evolves cleanly as new offensive security capabilities ship. - Collaborate with Data Ingestion, Security Research, and API Platform teams on data contracts, API design, and pipeline dependencies. - Act as product owner for the data platform, translating needs from research and product into a clear, prioritized engineering roadmap.

Requirements

- Demonstrated experience leading teams that design, scale, and operate relational databases in production, preferably PostgreSQL, along with hybrid stores such as graph, time-series, or document databases. - Experience defining schema migration strategies for high-velocity production environments with zero-downtime requirements. - Familiarity with multi-tenant data architectures, including customer data isolation, row-level security, and data residency concerns. - Strong grasp of database performance topics such as query optimization, indexing strategies, EXPLAIN analysis, and connection pooling. - Track record of building or significantly growing an engineering team, including hiring, onboarding, and instilling norms for data-intensive systems. - Ability to drive high-impact architecture decisions through design documents, structured reviews, and cross-team consensus.

Nice to have

- Experience with Neo4j or other graph databases for asset or relationship modeling. - Background operating analytical or time-series data stores at scale. - Comfort working in a remote or hybrid model with occasional in-office presence at a major U.S. hub.
