Remote job
Robotics Simulation Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Robotics Simulation Engineer building the simulation environments, tools, and infrastructure used to develop, test, and validate autonomous systems across surface, aerial, and ground domains. The role sits at the intersection of robotics, simulation, developer tooling, and autonomy testing, leveraging engines like Unity and Unreal.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain simulation environments and tools using Unity, Unreal Engine, or comparable platforms. - Develop configurable scenarios, agents, sensors, environmental conditions, mission events, and test environments across autonomous surface vessels, drones, ground vehicles, and multi-agent operations. - Develop realistic agent behaviors, traffic patterns, environmental conditions, and edge-case scenarios, and use field data and logs to improve simulation fidelity. - Develop closed-loop simulation workflows that let autonomy and mission software operate against simulated vehicles, sensors, agents, and environments. - Support software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), replay, regression testing, and automated scenario evaluation. - Integrate simulation environments with autonomy stacks, mission software, command-and-control systems, sensor models, and data pipelines. - Build tools for scenario generation, simulation orchestration, automated testing, visualization, debugging, and results analysis. - Improve repeatability and scalability of simulation-based testing, support large-scale scenario execution, and maintain documentation and best practices. - Partner with autonomy, software, perception, product, field operations, and program teams to translate requirements into useful simulation capabilities.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Simulation, Game Development, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field. - 3+ years of experience building simulation software, robotics simulation, game-engine environments, developer tooling, or automated testing infrastructure. - Hands-on experience with Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar real-time 3D platforms. - Strong software engineering fundamentals, including code reviews, testing, and debugging. - Experience integrating simulation with autonomy stacks, sensors, or mission software. - Solid understanding of robotics, autonomy, or multi-agent systems concepts. - Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
Nice to have - Experience with SIL, HIL, replay, or regression testing workflows. - Background in synthetic data, scenario generation, or large-scale simulation orchestration. - Experience supporting defense, aerospace, robotics, autonomy, simulation, or dual-use technology programs. - Active or prior security clearance.
Benefits and work setup - 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families, plus employer-paid life insurance. - 401(k) with company match and an equity package. - Unlimited PTO with a two-week enforced minimum, and 16 weeks of paid parental leave. - Work-from-home stipend, monthly health and wellness stipend, and Global Entry reimbursement.
