Head of Cloud Operations

Role overview A leadership position owning the operational backbone of a cloud platform that powers autonomous systems across sea, air, and land. The role spans change, release, incident, and reliability practices, blending hands-on technical direction with people leadership across SRE and DevOps teams in a regulated, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

- Lead and grow the SRE and DevOps organizations, setting direction for reliability engineering, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and observability.

- Define and operate the change and release framework, including change classes, approval paths, GitOps-aligned workflows, maintenance windows, and audit-ready deployment records.

- Own the incident management lifecycle, from severity classification and on-call health through incident command, stakeholder communications, and blameless post-incident reviews.

- Coordinate cross-team releases across platform, backend, autonomy, and frontend groups, managing dependencies, versioning, and promotion between environments and tenants.

- Partner with security and compliance stakeholders to translate authorization and remediation requirements into practical, engineering-friendly processes and evidence.

- Coach engineers, manage performance, and shape a culture that balances delivery speed with operational discipline.

Requirements

- Demonstrated leadership of SRE or DevOps teams operating production cloud platforms at meaningful scale.

- Strong technical depth in reliability practices such as SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.

- Experience designing and running formal change, release, and incident management processes in environments that require traceability and audit readiness.

- Familiarity with GitOps workflows, signed peer-reviewed pull requests, and automated change records.

- Ability to operate under pressure during major incidents, coordinating command roles, communications, and escalations.

- Track record of partnering with security or compliance functions on authorization boundaries and remediation tracking.

Nice to have

- Background supporting government-sponsored or defense-adjacent systems with notification obligations.

- Experience integrating release processes with security scanning, feature flags, and rollback automation.
