Backend Engineer

Role overview Design and evolve cloud-native backend services that underpin a software platform. You’ll work across the development lifecycle, turning product needs into secure APIs and reliable services while contributing to architecture, performance and engineering practices.

Responsibilities - Build and maintain scalable backend services in Java. - Develop secure REST APIs and cloud-native features. - Translate product requirements into clear, maintainable software. - Design database models and improve SQL queries. - Review code and contribute to shared engineering practices. - Work with product and engineering colleagues on features, reliability and performance. - Use AI development tools to improve coding speed, quality and efficiency.

Requirements - 3 or more years building enterprise applications with Java. - Strong experience with relational databases and SQL. - Ability to design and build secure REST APIs. - Fluency in English. - Collaborative communication and willingness to share knowledge through code reviews. - Interest in complex technical problems, scalability and taking ownership.

Nice to have Dutch fluency, Quarkus or similar Java frameworks, Angular or other frontend familiarity, cloud-native or distributed systems experience, and experience using AI tools in software development.
