Role overview
A senior technical and strategic leader is needed to head a newly established Data Security Consulting Practice, serving as the primary technical authority on enterprise data protection engagements. The position blends strategic advisory work with deep technical expertise, guiding clients through secure data architecture design, platform enablement, and integration of leading data protection solutions. The role is customer-facing and requires up to 25% travel within the Northeast region for client meetings, events, and quarterly reviews.
Responsibilities
- Lead client-facing data security engagements end to end, overseeing design, delivery, and implementation of strategic data protection programs - Assess current data protection posture and develop tailored strategies aligned with business, compliance, and transformation goals - Design and document enterprise data security architectures spanning discovery, classification, encryption, tokenization, and access control across multi-cloud and hybrid environments - Direct evaluations and integrations of data security platforms such as DLP, DSPM, CASB, and insider risk management tooling - Provide technical oversight for solution deployments, policy configurations, and integration with existing client infrastructure - Mentor and lead a team of consultants and engineers, reviewing deliverables and ensuring consistent technical quality - Serve as a trusted advisor to executives and technical teams, sharing guidance on best practices, regulatory impacts, and emerging technologies - Research and recommend emerging tools, frameworks, and automation approaches to advance consulting methodologies and client maturity
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience - 8+ years of experience in information security, including 3+ years focused specifically on data security or data protection - 3+ years in a client-facing consulting or technical lead capacity - Demonstrated success developing and implementing data security strategies across complex enterprise environments - Strong understanding of encryption, key management (KMS/HSM), tokenization, data masking, and protection of structured and unstructured data - Familiarity with data governance and compliance frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, ISO 27001, and NIST - Excellent client communication and presentation skills, with the ability to manage multiple engagements and translate business outcomes into technical execution plans

- Hands-on experience with data protection platforms such as Proofpoint, Netskope, Cyera, Cyberhaven, BigID, Symantec DLP, or Varonis - Background in security automation, APIs, and integration work using Python, PowerShell, Terraform, or Ansible - Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities within consulting or project delivery teams - Willingness to embrace emerging technologies, including AI tools, to improve problem solving and outcomes
