Role overview
A mid-level Field IT Operations Engineer position focused on independently supporting, troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining end-user technology and core IT infrastructure across multiple business locations. The role serves as a reliable escalation point for moderately complex technical issues, contributes to infrastructure projects, and travels up to 40% to support sites that include offices, retail locations, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and active construction environments. Candidates should be flexible for after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call rotations.
Responsibilities
- Independently troubleshoot, install, configure, repair, and maintain PCs, laptops, retail Point of Sale systems, registers, receipt and label printers, iPads and iOS devices, VoIP phones, and related end-user technologies - Diagnose hardware, software, peripheral, account, and connectivity issues, then implement solutions and document work performed across multiple business locations - Support Dell and Nutanix server environments, Windows Server 2016/2019, Meraki and Fortinet switches, firewalls, wireless access points, manufacturing IoT devices, ISP circuits, and related infrastructure - Perform standard configuration changes, software installations, firmware updates, patching, and preventive maintenance under change-control procedures, including copper Ethernet and single-mode fiber troubleshooting - Monitor, prioritize, and resolve incidents through an ITSM helpdesk platform, respond to alerts from infrastructure monitoring tools, and serve as an escalation resource for associate-level engineers - Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, site openings, remodels, equipment refreshes, and technology deployments, with occasional last-minute travel to support critical issues
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field is preferred - Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in IT operations, infrastructure support, field services, or systems administration - Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot moderately complex hardware, software, server, network, wireless, and connectivity issues - Working knowledge of end-user devices, retail Point of Sale technology, Windows environments, server infrastructure, network equipment, monitoring platforms, and IT service-management practices - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and complete assignments with limited day-to-day supervision - Valid driver's license, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work safely around low-voltage cabling, and eligibility to pass industry-specific state licensing requirements including federal background checks
