Engineering Manager - Grafana Application Security | EMEA | (Remote, UK)

Role overview This remote Engineering Manager role leads an application security team for a cloud-based SaaS observability platform. The position blends people leadership, technical strategy, and cross-organizational influence, with accountability for the security of software produced by teams that do not report directly to this function. The successful candidate brings deep engineering experience, mature security program instincts, and a collaborative leadership style.

Responsibilities - Lead the application security team across application security, cloud security, and internal tooling development. - Drive first-party and third-party vulnerability management, including coordinated disclosure with external reporters and embargoed fixes. - Define, refine, and implement engineering strategy in partnership with security leadership, individual contributors, and cross-functional stakeholders. - Run regular one-on-ones, coaching, and mentoring to keep team members engaged and growing. - Partner with engineering leaders to shape wider product strategy, roadmaps, and design decisions. - Stay actively engaged with significant incidents, including preparation, simulation, response, and customer-facing communications. - Review and contribute to design documents for upcoming projects, helping break work into well-scoped tasks.

Requirements - Prior experience managing a security engineering team. - Strong engineering background with the ability to review threat models, challenge severity ratings, and contribute to design reviews. - Comfort working with autonomous engineering teams that own their technical and product decisions. - A DevOps mindset that favors enablement, automation, and guardrails over gates and roadblocks. - Familiarity with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure), Kubernetes, and securing mixed OSS and SaaS products. - Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to translate technical security concepts into business impact.

Nice to have - Prior programming or software engineering background before transitioning into security and leadership. - Working knowledge of open-source observability tooling.
