Commissioning Network Engineer II

Role overview Lead the turn-up, integration, and operational handoff of enterprise and service-provider network infrastructure as an L3 Commissioning Specialist. The role is the final technical authority for validating complex deployments, conducting high-level acceptance testing, and resolving critical routing and configuration issues before systems go live in production.

Responsibilities - Lead end-to-end commissioning, provisioning, and integration of core routers, switches, firewalls, optical transport gear, and edge devices across data center, campus, and ISP environments - Execute rigorous pre-flight and post-flight testing, including failover testing and optical light-level verification, to confirm hardware and topology match baseline designs - Serve as the L3 escalation point during deployment windows to diagnose and resolve complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing, switching, and security protocol issues - Provide technical guidance and training to L1 and L2 field technicians and contractors on physical fiber standards, console pinouts, and turn-up procedures

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience - Five years of hands-on experience in network engineering, deployment, or L3 support within an ISP, data center, or large enterprise environment - Deep experience with BGP including iBGP and eBGP, OSPF, IS-IS, and MPLS services such as L2VPN, L3VPN, and VRFs - Working knowledge of VXLAN, EVPN, STP and RSTP, LACP, VPC, and VLAN tagging strategies - Direct experience configuring and commissioning hardware such as Juniper Junos, Nokia SR-OS or OLT, Siklu, and Ruckus switches - Proficiency with network testing tools such as IXIA, Spirent, or EXFO, and scripting with Ansible and YAML, plus knowledge of optical power meters, OTDR, fiber types, transceiver diagnostics, and serial console pinouts

Nice to have - Strong root-cause analysis skills under high-pressure deployment or maintenance windows - Ability to translate complex engineering status into clear updates for non-technical stakeholders and write standard operating procedures - Flexibility to work late-night maintenance windows and travel occasionally to regional pop sites, data centers, or central offices
