Role overview

A lead field engineering role focused on diagnostics, commissioning, and post-installation service for power and distribution transformers serving utility, industrial, and hyperscale data center customers. The position combines hands-on technical work with customer-facing responsibilities, helping establish diagnostic and service capabilities for a scaling transformer product line. Travel is heavy and on-site presence is central to the work.

Responsibilities

- Lead on-site installation oversight, commissioning, and startup of oil-filled and dry-type transformers at customer facilities. - Conduct acceptance and diagnostic testing per IEEE/IEC/NEMA standards, including Turns Ratio, insulation resistance, power factor, SFRA, and Dissolved Gas Analysis sampling. - Support energization planning, outage coordination, and site readiness reviews alongside customers, EPCs, and project managers. - Diagnose and troubleshoot On-Load Tap Changers, cooling systems, bushings, and protection interfaces; recommend corrective or preventive actions. - Produce customer-ready technical reports and feed field observations into failure analysis, warranty investigations, and continuous improvement processes. - Serve as the primary on-site technical representative, including emergency response with after-hours and weekend support.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, OR equivalent experience such as military electrical training or an associate degree with relevant field work. - 2+ years of hands-on field experience with power/distribution transformers, switchgear, or related power delivery equipment. - Working knowledge of transformer diagnostic methods: TTR, insulation resistance, DGA/oil analysis, and power factor testing. - Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and winding/vector diagrams. - Willingness to travel 50-75%, including domestic and potentially international sites. - Valid driver's license; ability to maintain or obtain a passport; physical ability to lift equipment and work at heights, in confined spaces, and in outdoor industrial environments.

Nice to have

- Experience with major OEM transformer platforms. - Familiarity with On-Load Tap Changers, cooling systems (ONAN/ONAF/OFAF), and bushings. - NETA certification or progress toward NETA Level II/III. - Protective relay testing and interpretation experience. - Data center or other mission-critical facility background.

Benefits and work setup

- Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance. - Equity options in a rapidly growing startup. - 401(k) with 4% employer match. - Unlimited PTO and parental leave. - Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA or HSA, plus commuter benefits where applicable. - Heavy travel position with company vehicle or travel allowance, per diem, and standard field service equipment provided. - On-call rotation for emergency customer support.
