Job details
About this role
Role overview A hands-on technical leadership role focused on building and governing internal platforms that accelerate delivery across a large civic technology ecosystem serving tens of millions of students and borrowers. The work centers on enterprise observability, CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, and compliance automation, with an emphasis on reducing operational toil and preventing fragmentation among many vendor teams.
Responsibilities - Architect and maintain scalable end-to-end UI and API test suites using Playwright and TypeScript across multiple product verticals. - Build automated data generation tools and synthetic applicant profile generators in Python using REST APIs to replace manual setup. - Develop React and TypeScript front-end tools that let vendor teams and government stakeholders create test scenarios on demand and watch pipeline status. - Construct, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines that enforce quality gates and feature-driven promotions. - Create reusable engineering patterns, self-service platform features, CLI utilities, and starter kits that let application teams adopt platform tooling with minimal hand-holding. - Lead code reviews and one-on-one mentorship, raise the bar on code quality, and shape team-wide development practices. - Act as a technical liaison to client leads and external vendors, advocating for developer self-service and smooth release gatekeeping. - Maintain Terraform-based cloud infrastructure, integrate automated security scanning, and operate within FedRAMP and Public Trust compliance processes.
Requirements - 10+ years of professional experience building full-stack applications and tooling with TypeScript and Python. - Practical experience writing CI/CD pipelines and using Terraform for infrastructure-as-code. - Background designing complex systems that interact with multiple external services, databases, and third-party APIs. - Proven track record on cross-functional agile teams, including estimation and direct client communication. - Strong diagnostic skills for distributed, multi-vendor application failures and microservices. - Prior federal government or civic tech project experience. - Familiarity with AWS GovCloud, FedRAMP standards, and observability tooling. - Experience implementing synthetic test data generators or complex mock data services.
Benefits and work setup Fully remote position within the continental U.S. Occasional travel may be required, roughly one to two times per year. U.S. work authorization is required without visa sponsorship; candidates may need to pass government background checks or obtain security clearance depending on the contract.
