About this role
Role overview This position sits within a partner engineering organization that owns the backend systems powering a rent payment platform. The work centers on building and scaling payment integrations, with daily collaboration across engineering, product, design, infrastructure, sales, partner, and customer success teams to ship experiences for external partners and end users.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain backend services that drive a payment integrations platform and its user-facing experiences - Develop fault-tolerant systems that depend on multiple external integrations - Construct and operate data pipelines that support product and partner needs - Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to align scope, set delivery expectations, and unblock work - Contribute hands-on as an individual contributor while shaping the team's engineering practices - Collaborate across disciplines to deliver features that serve both internal teams and external partner customers
Requirements - At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience - At least 4 years of hands-on experience with Java - Proficiency with Spring (core, web, boot), Gradle, JUnit, and JVM tuning including memory, performance, and garbage collection - Experience designing service-oriented architectures, REST APIs, message queues, and scalable systems - Working knowledge of AWS services such as EKS, Aurora RDS, ElastiCache, and DynamoDB, plus containerization tooling - Track record of building data pipelines and operating on a globally distributed, high-ownership team
Nice to have - CI/CD experience, ideally with GitHub Actions, plus strong git and automation skills - Familiarity with observability tooling such as DataDog for availability and reliability - Exposure to big data platforms like Snowflake - Infrastructure-as-Code using CDK or Terraform - A mentoring mindset and a habit of raising team standards through best practices - Clear written and verbal communication across cross-functional groups
