About this role

Role overview Lead browser research that improves device identification and bot detection. You’ll investigate how modern browsers and web technologies behave, validate whether discoveries can work in real product conditions, and guide promising findings through implementation.

Responsibilities - Research browser signals and techniques for identifying devices, visitors, and automated traffic, including areas with unclear requirements. - Test findings against practical constraints such as performance, execution context, proxies, and interactions with existing signals; estimate likely impact and trade-offs. - Work with engineers during implementation, reviewing changes and advising on edge cases. - Create and maintain research tools such as observers, fuzzers, and scrapers to find signals and detect platform changes. - Follow browser release channels and standards discussions, translating upcoming changes into product recommendations. - Share clear research reports, prototypes, and experimental implementations with engineering and product teams.

Requirements - Strong knowledge of web platform fundamentals, browser internals, web security, and networking. - Proficiency in JavaScript and ability to navigate code in multiple languages. - Experience uncovering undocumented behavior through testing, debugging, and reverse engineering. - A record of independently taking research from an initial idea through validation, including experiments on real traffic and analysis of large datasets. - Deep expertise in at least one relevant area, such as reverse engineering, network research, or identification, with working knowledge of adjacent areas. - Ability to explain research findings, impact, and trade-offs clearly to technical and product partners.

Nice to have - Experience building research automation tools or submitting reports to browser bug trackers. - Backend development experience, familiarity with anti-fingerprinting techniques, or a public research record such as talks, writing, security disclosures, or open-source work.

Benefits and work setup - Fully remote work, subject to location and work-authorization restrictions; visa sponsorship is not available. - Salary range varies by location; the listing gives a broad range of $174,000–$235,000 USD, with separate examples for some locations.
