Role overview
The Product Owner leads the definition, prioritization, and delivery of technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer experience across complex systems. Acting as the voice of the business, this individual translates strategic objectives and operational needs into clear requirements while partnering with cross-functional teams, vendors, and IT groups. The role centers on supporting financial recording and ledger systems, ensuring accurate transaction processing, reconciliation, and data integrity across policy administration and accounting platforms, balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution.
Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the product vision and roadmap for financial recording accuracy, reconciliation, and downstream ledger impacts across one to two teams of moderate complexity - Own and prioritize the product backlog, including transaction posting, general ledger interfaces, and financial data reconciliation, translating business needs into epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria - Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and development teams, gathering requirements and communicating product plans and progress - Make strategic prioritization decisions that balance competing priorities, stakeholder needs, and resource constraints while managing defects, enhancements, and process improvements - Lead collaboration across Finance, Accounting, Actuarial, technical, and vendor teams to design and deliver solutions on schedule - Manage product delivery using Agile or other SDLC methodologies, coordinating updates and changes across impacted teams and aligning with governance practices - Assess and communicate risks, dependencies, and mitigations tied to financial controls, data integrity, and audit implications - Measure and report on product success through post-implementation analysis and transparent status updates - Oversee product budget and resource allocation for managed applications - Drive continuous improvement by challenging existing processes, promoting Agile best practices, and mentoring teams on digital tools
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree - 7+ years of experience in product ownership or business analysis - 3+ years of technical professional experience - Project or program management experience - Working knowledge of financial recording systems, general ledger structures, and reconciliation processes - Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to influence stakeholders - Ability to manage competing priorities and build relationships across business and technology teams
Nice to have
- Experience in the financial services industry, ideally involving insurance or annuity accounting, premium processing, or policy administration financial flows - Hands-on experience applying Agile values and principles - Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen background
