Role overview
Lead the discovery and development of internal AI products that reduce manual work across business teams. The position is split between understanding operational needs with stakeholders and hands-on engineering: designing, coding, and deploying AI applications such as agents, chatbots, retrieval-augmented systems, and automated workflows. It also leads a small engineering team and takes products from early exploration through production and adoption.
Responsibilities
- Work with teams in areas such as operations, creative, and support to observe current processes and identify practical opportunities for AI. - Turn operational pain points into product requirements, set expectations about AI capabilities, and align work with stakeholder needs. - Design and build production AI systems, including LLM applications, agent-based workflows, RAG solutions, chatbots, and automation. - Lead and mentor a small team while contributing directly to its codebase and setting engineering quality standards. - Own internal tools through discovery, prototyping, deployment, and adoption by non-technical users.
Requirements
- Strong Python skills and a genuine interest in both building AI products and working closely with people who will use them. - Hands-on experience delivering AI systems to production, ideally LLM applications, agentic automation, or tools that improve human workflows. - Ability to analyse messy manual processes and identify where software could save meaningful time. - Solid software engineering experience with APIs, microservices, databases, and cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS. - Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including working through ambiguity with non-technical stakeholders.
