Staff Java Software Engineer (Remote)

Role overview A digital sportsbook platform is hiring a Staff Java Software Engineer to lead technical direction for internal platforms that power customer operations, marketing, support, risk, and data systems. This senior individual contributor role combines hands-on engineering with architecture ownership, cross-functional influence, and mentorship. The team builds and maintains Java backend services, APIs, and integrations with SaaS and CRM platforms that business teams depend on.

Responsibilities - Own the architecture for major services, integrations, and data flows across internal platform systems - Lead design reviews for complex, cross-functional initiatives and align engineering teams on technical approaches - Build and maintain scalable, resilient Java backend services using frameworks such as Spring Boot - Tackle high-throughput event processing, complex multi-system integrations, and production incidents - Establish and evolve engineering standards covering API design, testing, observability, and deployment - Mentor engineers through design review, code review, and direct coaching

Requirements - 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep Java expertise - Demonstrated ownership of architecture and delivery of complex production systems spanning multiple teams - Strong experience designing APIs and integrating distributed systems with sound judgment about consistency and failure handling - Track record of operating independently, defining approaches to ambiguous problems, and driving them to production - Experience operating services in production, including on-call ownership and incident response - Proficiency with Git-based workflows, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines

Nice to have - Event-driven architecture experience at scale (Kafka or similar) - Cloud environment experience, preferably AWS, including infrastructure-as-code - Background in highly available or regulated industries such as gaming, fintech, or payments - Familiarity with AI model or agent platforms and AI-powered coding assistants - Exposure to Salesforce APIs, Apex, or Lightning Web Components
