About this role
Role overview Set the backend technical direction for a new order management system that turns approved media plans into binding orders. You’ll shape the complete order lifecycle, document generation, contract handling, and integrations, working with Product and Engineering to translate business and legal needs into dependable software. This is a technical leadership role centered on architecture and engineering judgment rather than people management.
Responsibilities - Design order states, approval workflows, safe repeatable transitions, and audit events. - Own the PDF generation pipeline, including templates, reusable components, placeholder handling, bundles, and document versioning. - Build dependable integrations with planning systems and e-signature services, using asynchronous processing, retries, reconciliation, and observability. - Guide architecture through design documents and RFCs, establish shared engineering patterns, and review complex proposals. - Design scalable APIs for dashboards, search, and pipeline visibility. - Partner with Product, Legal, Operations, and Engineering to balance business needs with maintainable systems. - Improve production reliability through monitoring, observability, and operational practices; help define responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.
Requirements - Extensive experience building and operating production backend systems, including architecture for complex distributed systems. - Strong experience with event-driven design, especially Kafka, and concepts such as idempotency, event sourcing, state machines, and asynchronous workflows. - Experience designing and operating microservices, including handling retries, eventual consistency, reconciliation, and failure recovery. - Deep hands-on Node.js backend experience, including asynchronous programming, testing, and production operations. - Ability to set direction in ambiguous, greenfield work and make pragmatic decisions about scalability, maintainability, and business impact. - Strong technical communication and influence, including writing design documents and helping engineers make sound decisions.
Nice to have Experience in compliance-sensitive areas such as contracts, document workflows, or e-signature platforms.
