Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead a small team building the backend and mobile foundations for a consumer financial app. This is a hands-on player-coach position: expect to write and review production code while owning architecture, engineering practices, hiring, and delivery. As the team grows, leadership responsibilities expand, while coding remains part of the role.
Responsibilities - Take on critical engineering work and help unblock teammates through implementation and review. - Own system architecture across services, transaction flows, data, infrastructure, and on-chain settlement. - Hire and onboard engineers, build a cohesive senior team, and support their growth. - Establish standards for reviews, CI, small changes, testing, correctness, and safe use of coding agents. - Run a predictable delivery process with clear priorities, versioned releases, and short feedback cycles. - Build production reliability practices, including actionable alerts, on-call coverage, tested runbooks, and incident response.
Requirements - Deep backend and distributed-systems experience, including transaction correctness, retries, reconciliation, and consistency during partial failures. - Strong TypeScript/Node skills or substantial experience in Go, Kotlin, or Java, with experience across event-driven systems and Postgres. - Ability to design mobile-facing APIs and authentication, including versioning, idempotency, OAuth2/OIDC, sessions, or passkeys. - Enough platform experience to guide deployments, rollbacks, infrastructure as code, Kubernetes, and observability. - Familiarity with native iOS development sufficient to review Swift/SwiftUI work and reason about app-to-backend contracts and failure states. - Experience leading engineers through hiring, coaching, technical decisions, and delivery while remaining an active contributor. - Strong testing discipline, using practices such as TDD, BDD, CI, and automated review to protect critical transaction paths.
