About this role
Role overview
A Control Systems Engineer role focused on designing, integrating, and standardizing control systems across a mixed fleet of industrial equipment including power generation, energy storage, load banks, electrical distribution, climate control, and compressed air systems. The position emphasizes controls integration and interoperability between systems across both new equipment development and existing fleet optimization. It is based at a corporate headquarters in Columbia, MO with frequent travel to project sites.
Responsibilities
- Integrate control systems across generators, BESS, load banks, electrical distribution, climate control, and compressed air equipment, supporting standardized approaches across multiple OEM platforms - Develop PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and control architectures, and configure communication using industrial protocols such as Modbus, CAN, and Ethernet-based systems - Build and maintain standardized Modbus maps across equipment platforms, validating parameter consistency in naming, scaling, and structure - Support integration of equipment into the internal telematics platform, validating data points and troubleshooting gaps and inconsistencies - Support commissioning, startup, testing, and remote diagnostics in both factory and field environments - Develop control schematics, IO lists, architecture documentation, control narratives, and alarm and safety logic
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience - At least three years of experience as a control systems engineer or in equivalent work - Hands-on experience with PLC-based control systems - Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols, including Modbus, CAN, and Ethernet-based systems - Experience integrating control systems across multiple equipment types or platforms - Working knowledge of three-phase power systems
Nice to have
- Experience with power generation, energy storage, load banks, climate control, or compressed air systems - Familiarity with telematics or remote monitoring platforms - Experience with data mapping, protocol translation, or system integration across mixed OEM fleets - Comfort with commissioning and field startup environments - Up to 20-40% travel to project sites; ability to lift up to 50 pounds and sit for prolonged periods at a desk
