Role overview
The Mainframe Systems Programmer supports a large enterprise mainframe environment, focusing on Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products running on z/OS. The position is a systems programming role (not applications development) and involves installation, upgrade, testing, configuration, and implementation of ISV software, plus ongoing monitoring, on-call support, vendor coordination, and incident/problem resolution.
Responsibilities
- Install, upgrade, test, configure, and implement ISV software across the z/OS environment. - Monitor supported software and participate in an on-call rotation, including major incident and emergency situations. - Investigate, triage, and resolve incidents, changes, and problems, escalating to vendors when appropriate. - Customize and tune systems by setting parameters and adjusting product configurations. - Research and evaluate new software options to meet evolving infrastructure needs. - Contribute to technical projects and assist teammates and adjacent teams with technical questions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a mainframe environment within a large enterprise (or equivalent combination of education and experience). - Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. - Working knowledge of z/OS installation and maintenance, including SMP/E. - Proficiency with TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and JCL. - Strong knowledge of Unix System Services (USS), including USS file system management and security. - Demonstrated ability to perform Mainframe Systems Programmer duties and moderately complex ISV installations.

- Knowledge of z/OS security practices. - Familiarity with z/OS systems programming functions, services structure, Parallel Sysplex, and catalog management.

Estimated salary range disclosed in the listing: $85,000 to $148,000 for a full-time schedule, with placement depending on skills, experience, and other factors.
