Lead Cloud / Platform Engineer - PM
Job details
About this role
Role overview A hands-on technical leadership role focused on bringing structure and proactive management to a cloud estate that currently spans both Azure and AWS. The position works alongside existing platform engineers and an engineering manager, providing technical stewardship rather than line management, with the goal of moving day-to-day operations away from reactive fire-fighting.
Responsibilities - Help establish a structured and proactive approach to managing the Azure and AWS cloud estate. - Establish and improve routine maintenance, patching, upgrade and lifecycle management practices. - Ensure platform changes are appropriately planned, tested and prioritised based on risk, lifecycle and operational need. - Promote pragmatic cloud engineering standards and best practices across the team. - Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate cloud management, including across security, reliability, resilience and observability. - Proactively surface technical risks and improvement opportunities, while remaining hands-on with engineering, remediation and automation work.
Requirements - Strong hands-on cloud or platform engineering background, ideally across both Azure and AWS. - Demonstrable experience helping an existing cloud estate move from reactive towards proactive management. - Experience establishing or improving maintenance, patching, upgrade and lifecycle-management practices. - Track record of setting engineering standards and helping teams prioritise technical work. - Comfort working as a senior technical lead without direct people-management responsibility.
Nice to have - Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tooling and modern CI/CD practices. - Experience shaping cloud cost, security or observability initiatives.
Benefits and work setup - Hybrid working with flexibility to split time between remote work and office collaboration. - Strong investment in ongoing training, conference attendance and certification across the AWS and Azure ecosystems.
