About this role
Role overview This remote role owns the Google Cloud Platform architecture powering an internal IT environment, with primary responsibility for GCP and secondary support for Azure, AWS, and on-premises systems. The position blends hands-on cloud engineering with collaboration across IT, security, and broader infrastructure teams, including work that supports integration during acquisitions.
Responsibilities - Design, deploy, and maintain GCP infrastructure including Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, IAM, and Cloud Interconnect - Automate provisioning and configuration through Terraform or comparable Infrastructure as Code tooling - Implement IAM best practices, VPC Service Controls, and Security Command Center policies - Monitor performance, availability, and spend across GCP environments and recommend optimizations - Diagnose and resolve connectivity, performance, and configuration issues affecting GCP workloads - Maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures - Support Azure, AWS, and on-premises networking as needed
Requirements - Five years of experience in cloud engineering or infrastructure roles with strong, hands-on GCP expertise - Deep understanding of Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, VPC, IAM, and Cloud Interconnect - Infrastructure as Code experience, Terraform preferred - Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or a similar language - Kubernetes experience for container orchestration and workload management - Familiarity with cloud networking concepts: VPC design, VPNs, peering, load balancing, DNS, and firewall policy
Nice to have - Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including networking, virtual machines, storage, and Entra ID - Working knowledge of AWS compute, storage, networking, and IAM services - Google Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Network Engineer certification - Azure (AZ-104, AZ-700) or AWS Solutions Architect certification - Hybrid, multi-cloud experience with on-premises data center connectivity - Familiarity with security frameworks such as SOC 2 or NIST - Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Cloud Monitoring or Datadog - Background supporting IT or cloud integration during mergers and acquisitions - Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code
