Job details
About this role
Role overview
A real-money prediction and trading platform covering sports, entertainment, and current events is hiring a Staff Platform Engineer to set technical direction for its core infrastructure. The role blends deep hands-on engineering with systems-level design, partnering with senior engineers, managers, and product leaders to deliver resilient, secure, and compliant platform capabilities at scale. The team is actively adopting AI-assisted development tools and expects engineers to use them to ship production-grade code with rigor.
Responsibilities
- Define organization-wide standards for integrating AI coding assistants, including prompt patterns and validation frameworks that protect architectural integrity. - Identify and mitigate risks from AI-generated code such as security flaws and over-abstraction, quantifying impact through PR velocity and quality metrics. - Lead the design and evolution of highly available, scalable cloud-native infrastructure serving multiple engineering teams. - Architect CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling that reduce friction across the software delivery lifecycle. - Act as a subject matter expert for platform security, implementing safeguards aligned with regulatory and compliance requirements. - Drive the observability roadmap across monitoring, tracing, and alerting, and serve as a technical liaison between engineering, product, and quantitative groups.
Requirements
- 8+ years in platform engineering or DevOps with a track record of architecting scalable, high-availability environments on AWS and Kubernetes. - Expert use of AI coding collaborators (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to ship production code, with measurable improvements to personal and team workflows. - Ability to evaluate trade-offs across AI tools and design validation strategies that catch issues like security gaps or over-abstraction. - Deep proficiency with infrastructure-as-code frameworks such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation. - Strong programming in Java and Python (Golang a plus), with enough full-stack exposure to bridge infrastructure and application layers. - Experience building mature CI/CD pipelines and implementing observability, chaos testing, and incident management practices. - Self-directed leader comfortable in ambiguous settings, with strong cross-team communication and a mentoring mindset.
Nice to have
- Background in high-growth startup environments, open-source contributions, or developer productivity tooling. - Experience with real-money transaction systems, betting or trading platforms, and regulatory compliance. - Track record of leading without formal authority across distributed, international teams.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote within the United Kingdom, with eligibility for a home office setup stipend. - Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
