Software Development Engineer in Test | Luma

Role overview An SDET position embedded in one of the agile engineering teams building Luma, a cloud-based scientific research platform used by more than two million scientists worldwide. The role owns test automation for a specific module of the application, contributing to established frameworks while working closely with developers, application scientists, and DevOps engineers.

Responsibilities - Write, maintain, and extend automated test suites for an owned module using Cucumber, TypeScript, and Cypress, with Playwright in some areas. - Own day-to-day quality: contribute test scenarios during planning, test stories as they are built, and communicate clear release readiness. - Design and document test cases covering functional, regression, and integration scenarios and keep them useful as the product evolves. - Investigate and reproduce defects, raise well-evidenced bug reports in JIRA, and verify fixes with developers and scientists. - Keep automated tests green and trustworthy in CI pipelines and help improve how tests run and report. - Read and interpret API documentation and translate it into meaningful automated coverage. - Perform manual exploratory testing alongside automation work.

Requirements - 2 to 5 years of experience in QA or testing, including at least one year of hands-on test automation. - Practical experience with Cypress, including selectors, custom commands, debugging failures, and working within an existing Page Object Model; React testing experience is a plus. - Working knowledge of TypeScript or JavaScript, including asynchronous code such as promises and async/await. - Experience with BDD and Cucumber, or willingness to learn quickly; most specs are written in Gherkin. - Comfort with Git and GitHub, including branching, pull requests, and code review, plus experience with JIRA or similar tracking tools.

Nice to have - Experience with Playwright, API testing tools such as Postman, or performance and load testing with K6 or similar. - Familiarity with validating data integrity across release upgrades, migrations, or schema changes. - A background or interest in science, engineering, or research software.
