Job details
About this role
Role overview
This is a leadership role for an experienced services manager to head a North American team of technical and scientific Professional Services consultants delivering complex enterprise SaaS solutions to research and development customers. A particular focus of the role is building and scaling a Lab Orchestration practice, covering laboratory automation, instrument integration, and the redesign of end-to-end scientific workflows. The position blends people leadership, customer consulting, and commercial services management with enough technical depth to challenge and guide a team on multi-workstream implementations.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a distributed team of Professional Services consultants, including skills planning, career paths, and targeted hiring to build bench strength. - Provide subject-matter direction for Lab Orchestration engagements, including instrument integration, scientific data flows, and laboratory workflow transformation. - Oversee governance and delivery risk for complex, strategic customer programmes that span multiple technologies, workstreams, or partner teams. - Partner with Sales and Solutions during pre-sales discovery, scoping, and proof of concept to make sure proposed work is achievable and commercially sound. - Manage Services financial performance, including utilisation, revenue, margin, and delivery forecasting across concurrent engagements. - Identify and pilot ways to use automation and emerging technologies, including AI, to make Professional Services delivery more efficient and scalable.
Requirements
- Demonstrable leadership experience managing technical or scientific consulting teams in a Professional Services organisation. - Hands-on familiarity with laboratory automation, instrument connectivity, and end-to-end scientific workflows spanning instruments and software platforms. - Background working in or alongside laboratory informatics environments such as ELN, LIMS, SDMS, or chromatography/CDS systems. - Track record acting as a trusted advisor to enterprise scientific customers, engaging credibly with both bench scientists and senior stakeholders. - Experience collaborating across Sales, Product, Engineering, and Project Management in a global, matrixed setting. - Commercial skills in scoping, pricing, utilisation management, and delivery forecasting for consulting engagements.
Nice to have
- Experience building a new consulting capability inside an emerging technology area and growing it into a repeatable offering. - Familiarity with laboratory robotics platforms and scientific instrument vendors. - Industry experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemicals, or other scientific R&D organisations. - Comfort contributing to reusable implementation patterns, standards, and intellectual property rather than purely time-and-materials work.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-friendly working model with a global, cross-functional team. - Environment that emphasises high integrity, collaboration, and investing in individual growth.
