About this role
Role overview
Spend a four-month summer internship contributing to a platform that helps engineering teams release runtime changes safely. The work supports feature flags, experimentation, runtime configuration, and tools for investigating incidents. With mentorship from experienced engineers, you’ll take on a defined project to improve the platform or its developer experience and learn how production services are designed and operated.
Responsibilities - Contribute to a backend service, shared component, developer tool, or automation project. - Work with a mentor, teammates, and product managers to clarify needs, assess design options, and plan achievable milestones. - Write maintainable code and appropriate unit or integration tests. - Work with APIs, structured data, and service dependencies in a distributed systems environment. - Improve system visibility and operational guidance through metrics, logs, dashboards, documentation, or runbooks. - Join code reviews, planning, demos, and other team activities; investigate issues and help deliver lasting fixes. - Present project outcomes and lessons learned at the end of the internship.
Requirements - Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related subject, with expected graduation in December 2027 or summer 2028. - Software development experience through coursework, personal projects, research, or internships. - Programming experience in a modern language such as C#, Java, Go, or Python. - Understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design, and object-oriented or functional programming. - Experience with web services, REST APIs, JSON, Git, and automated testing.
Nice to have - Exposure to backend services, distributed systems, developer tools, or cloud applications. - Familiarity with Azure or GCP, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, feature flags, runtime configuration, or progressive delivery. - Awareness of observability concepts such as metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, or service-level objectives. - Thoughtful use of AI coding assistants, along with strong problem-solving, communication, and curiosity.
Benefits and work setup - Four-month internship with engineering mentorship and participation in design and code reviews. - Hybrid schedule requiring at least two office days each week; team schedules may vary.
