Senior Engineer I, Compute
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Build and improve the distributed control plane behind cloud compute services. This senior engineering role combines hands-on Go development with technical leadership: you’ll design high-throughput, low-latency services, guide complex work from design to release, and help improve system resilience and the way the team operates.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement fault-tolerant control plane services for compute infrastructure. - Lead technical workstreams through planning, implementation, and release, keeping delivery predictable. - Build service interfaces with gRPC and REST for reliable communication across distributed systems. - Investigate difficult systems issues and operational bottlenecks to improve resilience, performance, and availability. - Mentor engineers through technical guidance and code reviews. - Improve architecture, build pipelines, service boundaries, and operational practices; participate in on-call support and incident response.
Requirements
- Strong experience with Go, microservices, and distributed control plane systems or low-latency infrastructure APIs. - Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and network performance in Linux environments. - Experience with containers, virtualization, or cloud-native infrastructure. - Ability to lead complex engineering projects, break work into deliverable pieces, and support other engineers’ growth. - A focus on learning, feedback, maintainable code, and improving systems over time.
Nice to have
- Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes or Firecracker.
Benefits and work setup
- Hybrid role with a listed salary range of $139,200–$174,000. - The source describes learning and education support, flexible time off, well-being resources, and potential bonus and equity compensation; specific benefits may vary by location.
