Principal Engineer, Data Center Architect

Role overview This is a senior individual-contributor role on a datacenter design team, owning the forward-looking architecture for next-generation facilities. The work spans reference design, vendor partnerships, and proof-of-concept efforts across cooling, power, and emerging infrastructure approaches for high-density compute, including AI/ML workloads.

Responsibilities - Define and own reference architectures for next-generation datacenter environments, accounting for shifts in networking, server hardware, and AI/ML roadmaps - Serve as the primary technical stakeholder for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across leased colocation and build-to-suit facilities - Lead new-site selection from an infrastructure and facility-fit perspective - Architect end-to-end cooling designs with vendors for CPU, GPU, and emerging accelerator hardware - Architect end-to-end power topologies for medium to ultra-high-density racks, including the move toward 800VDC - Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and convert successful pilots into global deployment standards - Evaluate non-traditional facility approaches such as behind-the-meter power and modular or prefabricated designs - Mentor engineers at all levels and represent the organization externally through conferences and publications

Requirements - 10+ years in datacenter architecture, infrastructure engineering, or a closely related field, with experience owning designs at scale - Deep expertise in MEP systems for both leased colocation and build-to-suit environments - Strong working knowledge of cooling approaches spanning air cooling, direct liquid cooling, and rack-scale liquid systems for high-density CPU and GPU workloads - Familiarity with AI/ML hardware roadmaps and the ability to translate server, networking, and accelerator trends into facility designs - Experience with emerging infrastructure approaches such as behind-the-meter power and modular or prefabricated datacenter designs - Demonstrated success leading proof-of-concept work and scaling pilots into global standards - Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including work with vendors, partners, and business stakeholders
