Sr. AI/ML Engineer, AI Research
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Research and prototype AI/ML capabilities for future health-focused products, taking ideas from problem definition and experimental design through validation and product handoff. This senior role combines research depth with software engineering, with particular relevance to foundation models, generative AI, multimodal methods, and predictive modeling. The work requires attention to system safety and collaboration with technical and nontechnical partners.
Responsibilities - Investigate emerging AI/ML methods and assess their fit for customer, clinical, and business problems. - Design experiments, build reusable prototypes, and validate research results. - Define evaluation metrics, benchmarks, and monitoring; identify risks and guide mitigations and responsible AI practices. - Set technical direction while weighing performance, latency, cost, safety, and regulatory needs. - Work with engineering, product, research, commercial, legal, and regulatory partners to align development and support safe use. - Improve research and training infrastructure, including data, experimentation, and delivery pipelines; communicate findings and contribute to publications or presentations.
Requirements - A technical bachelor’s degree with typically 5–8 years of related experience, a master’s with 2–5 years, or a PhD with 0–2 years. - Strong computer science fundamentals and hands-on Python experience with modern AI/ML libraries and frameworks. - Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous AI/ML research, from framing a problem through experimentation and evaluation. - Experience relevant to deep learning and areas such as generative AI, reinforcement learning, multimodal learning, or time-series modeling. - Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining methods and results to varied audiences.
Benefits and work setup
The role is home-office based and does not require living near an assigned office. Hybrid work may be available for people who live within typical commuting distance of a site; a flexible work option is also mentioned.
