Platform Engineer (FedD145)

Role overview A federal government contractor is hiring a Platform Engineer to help build and operate production runtime environments for mission applications. The role sits at the boundary between application teams and platform infrastructure, advocating best practices and translating application needs into reliable, automated deployments. Strong Kubernetes fluency is central, with work spanning infrastructure as code, security, and platform tooling.

Responsibilities - Validate that solutions and implementations align with platform requirements and business objectives. - Solve problems independently by developing small components to address challenges without relying on full architecture diagrams. - Understand how medium-level tasks contribute to broader platform goals and collaborate across teams to integrate components cohesively. - Provide accurate time and effort estimates to support project planning and resource allocation. - Demonstrate programming language proficiency and know when to use a language versus a shell for efficient task execution. - Act as the connective layer between application development teams and the production environment.

Requirements - Proven experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role with focus on system architecture and development. - Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, Google Cloud, and Docker. - Proficiency in at least one programming language (such as Python, Go, or Ansible) with shell scripting familiarity. - Proficiency with YAML and familiarity with continuous delivery, distributed architectures, containerization, and everything-as-code. - Experience working on an Agile team in a remote environment with strong independent problem-solving skills. - Active Secret clearance, DoD 8570 IAT II certification, and experience supporting a production Authority to Operate (ATO) system in the Department of Defense.

Nice to have - Experience with security automation, API security, container security, cloud security, monitoring, and performance instrumentation. - Comfort debugging distributed systems and reading or writing code across components.
