Role overview
Serve as the technical bridge between customers and an open-source data and AI infrastructure platform. You will lead technical discovery, shape proof-of-concept implementations, explain solutions to demanding audiences, and help guide early deployments. The work combines hands-on engineering with consultative communication and field-level product influence.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical lead during pre-sales conversations and initial customer deployments. - Understand customer requirements across data platforms, AI infrastructure, metadata, governance, and distributed systems. - Translate technical needs into practical solution designs and implementation approaches. - Build and refine proof-of-concept projects tailored to specific customer environments and use cases. - Deliver demonstrations, architecture deep dives, and presentations for customers and industry audiences. - Provide structured feedback from customer engagements to founders and engineering leaders.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience working with data and AI technologies. - Strong technical depth combined with clear, confident customer communication. - Ability to rapidly create working prototypes in complex technical environments. - Experience presenting technical material in customer meetings and preferably at industry events. - Ability to understand open-source technologies and engage constructively with their communities. - Sound judgment when balancing customer requirements, technical constraints, and product direction.
Nice to have
- Background in software engineering, data engineering, platform engineering, or AI infrastructure. - Experience at an early-stage company focused on data infrastructure, AI infrastructure, or developer tools. - Active participation in an open-source project as a contributor or experienced user.
Benefits and work setup
- Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with remote work available. - Requires up to approximately 30% travel, primarily to the Bay Area. - Published compensation is $180,000–$250,000 in base salary, plus equity and benefits.
