Job details
About this role
Role overview
Shape the front-end toolkit for a browser-based scientific analytics platform. This individual contributor role combines interface engineering, architecture, and product judgment: you’ll help developers create polished, responsive scientific applications and reusable components, while deciding how the UI toolkit should evolve.
Responsibilities
- Create a lightweight approach for building polished interfaces with minimal setup, including interfaces authored in JavaScript. - Evaluate whether to extend an existing JavaScript API or introduce frameworks, styling tools, preprocessors, or component libraries. - Build wrappers that expose platform components as reusable widgets. - Design how widgets are registered, discovered, configured, and connected to data and events. - Implement a visual designer with a drag-and-drop palette of dynamically loaded widgets. - Develop high-performance scientific applications and improve the experience of developers building apps, plugins, and scripts.
Requirements
- Strong front-end engineering ability and experience building sophisticated interfaces. - Sound judgment about UI architecture, reusable components, and developer experience. - Ability to take ownership of technical decisions and deliver in a small, autonomous team. - Evidence of strong work through experience, projects, or a portfolio; links to UI examples, code, or demos are requested.
Nice to have
- Experience with data visualization libraries or techniques. - Full-stack development skills in Java, Python, R, or another language. - Experience with high-performance web applications or scientific computing. - Background in natural sciences, STEM, or scientific software. - Familiarity with browser technologies such as WebAssembly, WebGPU, or WebGL.
Benefits and work setup
The full-time role is remote in Europe or Ukraine. It offers substantial ownership and decision-making authority, with work at the intersection of interface design, browser performance, and scientific applications.
