Role overview

This senior pre-sales engineering role partners with a sales counterpart to lead technical engagements end-to-end — from discovery through live demonstration — for customers building data engineering, analytics, and machine learning workloads on a unified data and AI platform. The position blends hands-on coding, solution architecture, and customer-facing storytelling, owning frontline technical relationships while helping expand platform adoption across named accounts.

Responsibilities

- Independently drive technical discovery and solution design across data engineering, analytics, and machine learning workloads - Build and deliver compelling proofs-of-concept and live platform demonstrations that support technical wins - Own frontline technical relationships with customer engineers, data teams, and technical leads - Partner with an Account Executive to develop account-level technical strategies that grow platform consumption - Navigate competitive evaluations by articulating platform differentiation through hands-on demonstrations - Contribute reusable technical assets such as notebooks, solution accelerators, and reference architectures to the broader solutions architect community

Requirements

- 4+ years of experience in data engineering, solutions architecture, technical pre-sales, or hands-on consulting roles - Proficiency in Python and SQL with the ability to debug, optimize, and write production-quality code; a live coding assessment is part of the interview process - Hands-on experience designing and implementing data solutions on at least one major public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) - Working knowledge of distributed data systems such as Apache Spark, Delta Lake, or comparable technologies like Hadoop, Kafka, and Flink - Demonstrated success leading technical customer conversations including discovery, whiteboarding, and architecture reviews - Familiarity with data engineering (ETL/ELT, medallion architecture, streaming), data science and MLOps, or SQL analytics - Strong presentation and demo skills; candidates build and present a live solution during the interview loop - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a quantitative discipline (or equivalent practical experience)

Nice to have

- Certification or prior experience with the platform itself - Familiarity with newer platform capabilities including a unified governance catalog, declarative data pipelines, and an open-source ML lifecycle tool - Background at a data and AI vendor, cloud provider, or technical consulting firm
