About this role

Role overview Lead the technical direction and hands-on development of backend platform services for crypto payment and settlement systems. The work combines architecture and reliability planning with implementation of complex components, production support, and technical ownership of external integrations.

Responsibilities - Design and evolve services with clear boundaries, reliable behavior, and sound data handling. - Identify scaling constraints and architectural risks, then recommend practical improvements or migration paths. - Build backend components in TypeScript and Node.js, accounting for retries, timeouts, idempotency, partial failures, and fallback modes. - Guide partner integrations through technical reviews, troubleshooting, documentation, and alignment on constraints and plans. - Improve observability and take part in incident investigation; validate ideas and integration flows with prototypes during discovery. - Support the team’s technical growth through reviews, pairing, documentation, and breaking down ambiguous work.

Requirements - At least six years of professional backend development experience, including deep hands-on work building and operating crypto infrastructure that moves real funds. - Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills, with experience owning services from design through production support. - Deep understanding of distributed systems, including microservices, service boundaries, data models, REST API contracts, queues, and asynchronous communication. - Production incident response experience and a strong grasp of failure handling, debugging, data issues, and observability. - Strong SQL and PostgreSQL knowledge, plus familiarity with other storage types. - Ability to mentor experienced engineers, assess trade-offs, take initiative, and critically review code produced with AI coding tools.

Nice to have - Experience with event-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS; Redis or similar in-memory stores; and Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS. - Experience shaping team practices for AI-assisted development.

Benefits and work setup - Remote contractor role, open to candidates in the United States, Argentina, or Brazil. The work requires Eastern Time availability and at least four hours of daily overlap with Central European working hours. - Contractor terms are set by agreement. Equipment includes a company laptop and technology accessories, with an annual in-person team meetup.
