Remote job
Principal Researcher, AI Red Teaming (Remote, ITA)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Set the technical direction for research that tests how frontier AI models and agentic systems can be manipulated into unsafe or unintended actions, and whether their safeguards withstand those attacks. This senior individual-contributor role combines hands-on security research, reusable testing tools, technical review, and publication. Findings are expected to inform coordinated disclosures and improve automated testing of AI systems.
Responsibilities - Choose and prioritize research questions, attack classes, target agents, and model behaviors, with clear rationale and review points. - Red-team models and agent systems, measuring outcomes through observed actions and traces rather than text transcripts alone. - Investigate vulnerabilities end to end, from hypothesis and exploit through disclosure and verification of fixes. - Study difficult failure cases, including multi-agent behavior, long-running tasks, and defenses that may appear effective. - Build repeatable research tooling such as attack harnesses, trace capture, tool-call interception, isolated test targets, and experiment runners. - Convert findings into reusable attack modules and tests; set technical standards for shared attack and trace formats. - Review research and guide the technical agenda, including internal notes, external papers, conference presentations, and research collaborations.
Requirements The source describes a principal-level technical research position but does not provide a complete qualifications list. It emphasizes the ability to conduct original AI security research, personally investigate difficult agent failure modes, build research tooling, and evaluate attacks through reproducible evidence. It also calls for technical leadership through research prioritization, review, and clear communication of findings.
Benefits and work setup The role is based in Italy and includes a fixed annual base salary range of €106,000–€162,800, with additional bonus or commission eligibility. Benefits include medical and dental coverage, wellbeing resources, and life and disability coverage. The source also describes professional development, paid leave, and employee connection programs.
