Staff Data Engineer

Role overview

Provide technical direction for the data engineering platform that supports analytics, data science, and company operations. This is a hands-on staff-level role combining architecture, platform ownership, production engineering, and mentoring, with close collaboration across technical and business teams.

Responsibilities - Set design direction for core data systems and guide reliable, production-ready delivery across the data engineering team. - Operate and improve a self-managed workflow orchestration platform, including its workers, upgrades, operational practices, and infrastructure footprint. - Own the cloud data warehouse’s modeling, performance, cost management, access controls, and governance. - Build and monitor ingestion pipelines, integrations, APIs, and event-driven services; make data quality, logging, alerting, and observability core requirements. - Advance transformation workflows and infrastructure-as-code practices, including reusable modules, deployment patterns, and continuous integration. - Work with analysts, data scientists, reliability engineers, IT, and business partners to shape requirements and communicate tradeoffs. - Mentor developing engineers through design feedback, code review, pairing, and coaching; help shape platform roadmaps and technical standards.

Requirements - Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience in data modeling and extract-load-transform patterns. - Hands-on experience operating self-hosted orchestration systems, including responsibility for upgrades and worker infrastructure. - Experience building cloud infrastructure with an infrastructure-as-code tool and developing APIs, ingestion services, or event-driven workflows. - Production engineering experience that includes logging, alerting, version control, and continuous integration and delivery. - Ability to lead technical work across teams, communicate clearly, and mentor less experienced engineers. - Experience using AI-assisted development tools to speed up engineering work.
