Principal Architect, AI & Platform

Role overview

This is a hands-on senior technical position shaping the architecture and AI direction for a regulated payment integrity platform. The role blends platform architecture with applied AI leadership, building capabilities that help auditors work faster, surface more findings, and reach decisions defensible to customers, regulators, and courts. Success requires balancing rapid delivery with the rigor a high-stakes, compliance-driven domain demands.

Responsibilities

- Lead the design and delivery of AI-augmented features that accelerate auditor workflows, expand issue detection, and produce findings that withstand external scrutiny. - Produce a current-state architecture map within the first month, then a sequenced AI integration roadmap prioritizing use cases by value and feasibility. - Define and maintain architectural standards across engineering and data science, covering API contracts, integration patterns, data flow, and security boundaries. - Develop reusable internal assets such as shared libraries, APIs, and data contracts that engineering and data science teams can build on. - Partner with compliance and security to define AI data governance policies, including retention windows, access controls, and audit needs. - Evaluate engineering and AI tooling pragmatically across a primarily AWS environment with some Azure footprint, weighing capability against cost, lock-in, and operational complexity. - Build bias and performance evaluation methodologies and collaborate with sales and operations to identify where AI can responsibly augment their processes.

Requirements

- 10+ years architecting multi-tenant SaaS products (not single-purpose internal applications) using cloud-native technologies. - Extensive hands-on experience with cloud-native design on AWS and/or Azure. - Proven track record integrating and building AI into platforms and applications, going well beyond surface-level API usage. - Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP); implementation experience strongly preferred. - Hands-on experience with packaged agent runtimes such as Bedrock AgentCore or Azure AI Foundry, not only custom orchestration. - Strong software fundamentals paired with active learning of emerging AI patterns and protocols. - Demonstrated ability to communicate technical detail at the right level for engineers, executives, customers, and regulators.

- Systems and storage architecture spanning multiple integrated platforms. - Background in healthcare or other regulated, high-compliance environments. - Experience rapidly standing up developer-facing platforms and improving internal developer experience.
