Role overview
A remote executive opportunity for a VP of Engineering to lead the full engineering organization, spanning software development, telecommunications architecture, and quality assurance. The position blends strategic executive leadership with hands-on technical depth, owning the vision for platform architecture, development processes, tooling, and engineering metrics for a high-availability SaaS product.
Responsibilities
- Serve on the executive team to shape strategic direction and cultivate a results-driven engineering culture. - Partner with product, user experience, and technical operations counterparts to convert business needs into customer-focused engineering roadmaps. - Maintain direct visibility into the codebase and architectural design, stepping in for architecture reviews and critical technical decisions. - Architect and scale high-concurrency, low-latency real-time telephony infrastructure built on FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, Kamailio, and RTP Engine. - Set engineering standards around SIP, event socket libraries, call routing logic, media handling, and other telecom protocols. - Recruit, mentor, and retain a 20+ person engineering team across development, QA, and DevOps while establishing metrics for productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience as a VP of Engineering or Senior Director managing 20+ engineers across software development, QA, and DevOps. - Track record of scaling a high-growth SaaS platform with rigorous reliability, security, and performance standards. - Hands-on experience with hybrid or cloud architectures such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus database technologies and real-time networking protocols. - Deep familiarity with the telephony stack listed above and real-time voice/data pipeline design. - Entrepreneurial mindset suited to fast-paced, high-growth environments, with the courage to make data-backed decisions. - Strong communication skills for engaging C-suite peers, board members, and individual contributors, plus a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related quantitative field.
