Senior Backend Engineer, Search

Role overview Design and scale the backend search systems that help users quickly find information across a large collaborative workspace. The role covers real-time ingestion and serving, relevance and performance improvements, and search capabilities that support semantic and AI-driven experiences.

Responsibilities - Design and implement search services that can scale with a growing user base. - Improve result relevance, accuracy, and response speed. - Develop real-time indexing pipelines so search results stay current. - Build measurement approaches for assessing and improving search quality. - Extend vector search capabilities for semantic search experiences. - Partner with AI, backend, and product teams to integrate search into features. - Investigate and resolve complex search issues under production scale.

Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. - At least five years of experience in search engineering or a closely related role. - Production experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch; Solr experience may also be relevant. - Experience with high-volume, real-time data ingestion and search serving in backend systems. - Ability to improve query parsing, indexing, and relevance tuning. - Experience measuring search quality and using those measures to improve systems.

Nice to have - Knowledge of ranking, relevance algorithms, or information retrieval. - Experience with vector embeddings, semantic search, or machine learning and NLP for relevance. - TypeScript experience in backend systems and a track record of designing search services that stay performant under heavy load.
