Job details
About this role
Role overview A mission-driven education-finance team is hiring a senior full-stack engineer to build and evolve a private student-loan origination and servicing platform used by colleges and universities. The role is remote within Eastern and Central time zones, involves some travel, and pairs hands-on coding with architectural influence on a small, high-impact engineering group working at the intersection of fintech operations, product, and data.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain features across the loan lifecycle, including application intake, decisioning, servicing, and collections workflows. - Develop internal operational tooling that lets operations teams manage loans, configure programs, generate reports, and respond to school and borrower needs. - Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, and technical design discussions shaping long-term platform health. - Use AI-assisted development techniques for code generation, testing, refactoring, and documentation to move faster without sacrificing quality. - Partner with compliance and legal to embed regulatory requirements (TILA, ECOA, fair lending, state licensing) as first-class engineering constraints. - Build and instrument data pipelines that feed credit modeling, compliance reporting, and school-facing portfolio analytics, treating data accuracy as non-negotiable. - Engage occasionally with school and university technical stakeholders on integration needs and platform reliability.
Requirements - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent, with strong fluency in Python and TypeScript or JavaScript, knowing when each fits. - Experience building operational or internal tooling in fintech, lending, or another regulated domain. - Comfort owning hard problems end-to-end in ambiguous, high-autonomy environments and a strong attention to software quality. - Working knowledge of modern deployment practices, code quality, and maintainability standards. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to non-engineers and produce documentation people engage with. - Genuine motivation to build technology that expands access to education and economic mobility.
Nice to have - Prior exposure to fintech, payments, banking, or financial services. - Designing or building data pipelines, ETL workflows, or event-driven systems that must be reliable and observable. - Familiarity with TILA, ECOA, or state lending regulations and their technical implications. - Startup experience where you have worn multiple hats. - Integrating with loan servicers, payment processors, or financial data providers.
Benefits and work setup - Competitive base salary in the $135,000-$165,000 range plus equity. - Health, dental, and vision coverage. - Student loan repayment benefits. - 401(k) with match. - Flexible paid time off policy. - Remote role within Eastern and Central time zones with occasional travel.
