Remote job
Senior Software Engineer, Query
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Build and operate the data systems that make historical pipeline, job, and test activity available for product features and customer queries. The work spans analytical storage, event ingestion, query services, and reliability, with a focus on making data dependable and fast as usage grows.
Responsibilities
- Own and improve a ClickHouse-based storage layer, shaping schemas around current and emerging access patterns. - Design ingestion from event streams and durable workflows so data arrives reliably and remains queryable while in transit. - Protect the performance of upstream services by keeping ingestion away from their critical paths. - Make historical queries easier for product teams and customers through domain APIs, indexing, caching, and tiered storage. - Lead architecture discussions, document decisions, and help choose which data domains to migrate next. - Monitor ingestion lag, query latency, and data correctness, using operational signals to improve system stability.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building or operating data-intensive systems, such as ingestion pipelines, event-driven architectures, or analytical and time-series databases. - Understanding of transactional versus analytical storage tradeoffs, plus experience designing schemas and tuning queries for high-volume workloads. - Strong Go skills, or comparable backend experience and willingness to work in Go; familiarity with interface design, data modeling, integrations, and concurrency. - Understanding of distributed systems concepts, including delivery guarantees and idempotency. - Regular use of AI tools in engineering, with the ability to describe what works and where the tools fall short. - Ability to take ambiguous technical problems from design through production and help teammates make progress.
Nice to have
Experience with ClickHouse or another columnar database is a strong plus. React and TypeScript experience may help with occasional work on product interfaces. Experience with Temporal, Honeycomb, Datadog, or Rollbar is relevant to the systems described.
