Role overview
Lead and grow a remote-first engineering team of five spanning core backend, frontend, and forward deployed functions. This is a player-coach position that pairs direct technical contribution with people leadership in an early-stage startup focused on helping organizations build and ship trusted software faster.
Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day execution of the engineering roadmap, partnering with the CTO on planning, prioritization, and resourcing forecasts. - Serve as a force multiplier by unblocking teammates through hands-on coding, architectural guidance, and process automation. - Run a lightweight, async-first delivery process that keeps shipping cadence predictable without adding bureaucratic overhead. - Drive career growth through regular 1:1s, structured feedback, and performance management. - Partner with recruiting and HR to source, hire, and onboard new engineering talent as the team scales. - Connect core, frontend, and forward deployed engineers into a single cohesive unit that operates against shared goals.
Requirements
- Senior-level engineering background with a demonstrable track record of shipping complex systems. - Five or more years managing engineers, with explicit focus on 1:1s, career development, and performance management. - Strong hands-on expertise in Go, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and broader cloud-native concepts. - Experience leading remote, async-first teams, paired with excellent written communication skills. - Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous, early-stage startup environment. - A pragmatic, highly organized approach to building processes that serve the team rather than the reverse.
Nice to have
- Background in DevSecOps, software supply chain security, or adjacent domains. - Hands-on familiarity with AI tooling applied to developer workflows.
