Job details
About this role
Role overview
An engineering leader is needed to manage a multidisciplinary team responsible for the systems that discover, scan, and collect large-scale Internet data powering an Internet intelligence platform and customer-facing products. The role blends people leadership with technical roadmap ownership, architecture guidance, and operational accountability. This is a fully remote position based in the continental United States, with occasional in-person onboarding at a Midwestern headquarters.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop scanner engineers and distributed systems engineers, setting clear expectations for ownership, quality, collaboration, delivery, and operational responsibility. - Define and drive the team's roadmap in partnership with product, research, infrastructure, and other engineering stakeholders. - Connect priorities to measurable improvements in data coverage, freshness, fidelity, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency. - Lead major initiatives from discovery through production delivery, communicating timelines, tradeoffs, and risks across teams. - Guide architecture across Internet scanning, orchestration, protocol implementations, distributed services, ingestion pipelines, APIs, and operational tooling. - Establish and maintain standards for design, testing, safe rollout, observability, and incident response, while owning staffing, hiring decisions, and team health.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams that balance people leadership, technical strategy, delivery, and operations. - Ability to set clear direction without making every decision yourself, including coaching through frequent feedback and meaningful delegation. - Track record of guiding decisions using measurable outcomes such as coverage, freshness, accuracy, reliability, recovery time, and infrastructure efficiency. - Comfort balancing speed, quality, cost, technical debt, operational risk, and customer impact across competing priorities. - Technically credible background sufficient to engage in architecture, design reviews, incidents, and engineering tradeoffs while enabling engineers. - Experience translating research and exploratory work into maintainable production capabilities.
Nice to have
- Background in high-performance network scanning, protocol implementation, scan orchestration, real-time data pipelines, or large-scale distributed systems. - Familiarity with IP scanning, DNS lookups, web crawling, or certificate ingestion pipelines.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote position open to candidates across the continental United States. - Compensation and benefits are described as competitive, with details available on the company's careers page; benefits may be modified in the future. - Reasonable accommodations are available for candidates and employees with disabilities. - Equal opportunity employer committed to inclusive hiring practices.
