About this role

Role overview

A senior distributed systems engineer is needed to design and operate highly available, data-driven services on a large-scale Internet intelligence platform. The work focuses on building real-time services that process massive datasets to power internal APIs and external applications, with an emphasis on long-term reliability and developer experience.

Responsibilities

- Design and ship large-scale, real-time services that consume massive datasets to support internal APIs and customer-facing applications. - Build shared tooling, libraries, frameworks, and services that advance security, research, and data platform initiatives. - Convert research prototypes into dependable internal tools, services, or platform capabilities. - Collaborate with engineering and product teams on planning and technical design discussions. - Develop and maintain data pipelines, messaging systems, databases, caching layers, and cloud or on-prem services. - Partner with machine learning engineers and security researchers to deliver solutions that improve security outcomes.

Requirements

- Five or more years of software engineering experience building distributed systems such as data ingestion pipelines, databases, and services. - Proficiency in an object-oriented language; Go is used on the team. - Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP). - Familiarity with message queue technologies such as AWS Kinesis, Google Pub/Sub, or Kafka. - Experience with databases like BigTable, Cloud Spanner, HBase, or Cassandra. - Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals including scalability, fault tolerance, and reliability, plus a habit of writing understandable, testable, maintainable code.

Nice to have

- Familiarity with gRPC or REST APIs. - Experience with data serialization formats such as Protobuf or MessagePack. - Experience building, deploying, or operating containerized services on Kubernetes. - Understanding of Internet protocols and how machines and services communicate. - Background or interest in security domains.

Benefits and work setup

- Remote position within the continental United States. - Expected salary range of $174,000 to $206,000 USD for candidates based in high cost-of-living areas (San Francisco Bay, New York City, Seattle), or $151,000 to $191,000 USD for other US locations, plus bonus eligibility and equity. - Commitment to reasonable accommodations throughout the interview process and employment, and an equal opportunity, inclusive workplace.
