Senior Field Service Engineer

Role overview

This senior-level position supports customers using advanced production hardware through a blend of onsite installation, maintenance, and upgrade work. The role is heavily travel-driven, with the engineer working from a home office and spending the majority of the week at customer sites both domestically and abroad. It sits within a customer success organization whose mandate is to keep equipment running reliably while channeling field learnings back into product development.

Responsibilities

- Travel approximately 75-90% of the time to perform onsite equipment installations, preventive maintenance, and hardware upgrades - Train customer teams on proper product usage, operation, and routine care - Author standard service procedures, troubleshooting documentation, and field guides - Identify recurring failure patterns and relay those findings to engineering to influence future design decisions - Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to investigate new issues and validate countermeasures - Respond to occasional after-hours service calls and support international customer engagements

Requirements

- At least five years of hands-on field service or related engineering experience - Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline preferred, though not required with equivalent practical experience - Ability to read electrical schematics and interpret mechanical drawings - Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with a customer-facing mindset - Valid passport and a personal vehicle, with a home base within driving distance of Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)
