Role overview An engineering manager opportunity leading a globally distributed team that builds the quality engineering platform for cloud and distributed-systems products. The position combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, focused on testing infrastructure, automation, and practices that allow engineering teams to ship reliable open-source cloud software with confidence.
Responsibilities - Lead, coach, and develop a team of software and quality engineers from graduate through senior level. - Partner with senior engineers to shape technical strategy, architecture, roadmap, and engineering standards for distributed-systems testing. - Guide development of automated testing infrastructure covering reliability, interoperability, and resilience of distributed systems. - Improve CI pipelines, testing tools, and reporting used to validate solutions across bare-metal, private, and public cloud environments. - Enable other engineering teams to adopt effective distributed-systems testing practices and tooling. - Contribute technical leadership through design and code reviews, debugging, and selective hands-on engineering. - Represent the team with stakeholders and collaborate across the organisation on quality engineering, infrastructure, and developer experience.
Requirements - Strong academic track record at both high school and university level. - Proven experience leading, coaching, and mentoring software engineers. - Professional software engineering experience with Python or Go. - Expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, quality engineering, or a closely related domain. - Strong knowledge of modern software testing processes, strategies, and automation. - Working knowledge of Linux, with Debian or Ubuntu preferred. - Ability to engage meaningfully in code reviews, architecture discussions, and software design. - Agile delivery experience and professional written and spoken English.
Nice to have - Cloud technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, Juju, Terraform, AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. - Designing testing strategies for distributed or cloud-native systems. - Building or operating large-scale CI/CD and test infrastructure. - Applying AI or machine learning to test analysis or failure classification. - Leading globally distributed teams.
