Engineering Manager - App Stores

Role overview

This is a technical management position leading a distributed team that builds the Python and Golang micro-services powering a global software distribution engine. The engine underpins marketplace platforms used worldwide to deliver open-source packages across architectures, release channels, and stable or beta branches. The manager combines hands-on engineering with people leadership, guiding a remote team toward reliable, secure, high-velocity delivery on a highly scalable SaaS product.

Responsibilities

- Lead and grow a remote engineering team, providing coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development - Set and manage expectations with internal stakeholders, management, and external partners - Collaborate with other engineering managers, product managers, and architects to produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious yet achievable goals - Build clean web-service APIs supporting both CLI and web frontend clients, primarily in Python with optional Golang - Conduct code reviews and provide architectural leadership across the team's services and components - Champion healthy engineering practices, documentation, performance optimisation, and security-aware delivery

Requirements

- Demonstrated experience leading modern, agile software development practices and shaping a collaborative engineering culture - Track record of mentoring, developing, and growing engineers - Solid software development experience in Python; Golang experience is a strong plus - Practical Linux system administration experience - Effective written and verbal communication skills - Passion for software development with a focus on timely delivery of high-quality software - Willingness to travel up to four times per year for internal in-person events

- Experience serving as a role model for sound engineering principles and contributing directly toward team goals - Familiarity with operating highly scalable SaaS systems under heavy load
