Role overview
The Principal IT Security Project Manager leads complex, enterprise-wide cybersecurity initiatives from planning through delivery. Reporting into senior information-security leadership, this role coordinates technical and business stakeholders, manages risk and resources, and ensures major security programmes produce measurable progress while aligning with relevant compliance obligations.
Responsibilities
- Direct cross-functional programmes such as software hardening, identity-management rollouts, cloud-security improvements, and zero-trust implementations. - Identify project risks and vulnerabilities, maintain mitigation plans, and track actions needed to protect business assets. - Communicate progress, budgets, dependencies, security metrics, and decisions to executives as well as technical delivery teams. - Coordinate planning sessions, workload allocation, solution decisions, and budget needs across participating teams. - Translate complex security risks and technical constraints into clear business language and actionable recommendations. - Ensure project milestones and deliverables align with applicable security and compliance frameworks, including SOC 2 and ISO 27001 where relevant.
Requirements
- At least eight years of IT project management experience, including a minimum of five years focused on cybersecurity or information security. - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information security, business, or a related field. - PMP certification and a security credential such as CISSP, CISM, or CRISC. - Deep understanding of network security, endpoint protection, threat intelligence, and recognised security frameworks. - Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority and work effectively with executives and engineers. - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong self-direction, and the ability to work independently.
