Senior Staff Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A technical anchor role within a Channels division that owns the full lifecycle of customer messaging, from the moment a marketer configures a campaign in the dashboard to the moment it is delivered to an end user's device. The senior staff engineer splits time between division-wide technical leadership and hands-on work on critical projects that bridge the customer-facing dashboard and the underlying delivery engines. The position is suited to engineers who set a high quality bar, mentor broadly, and want to ship foundational systems at scale.
Responsibilities - Partner on technical vision and the quality bar for the division, driving architectural direction, best practices, and resolution of persistent technical debt. - Lead large, ambiguous projects end-to-end, from problem framing and design docs through rollout and operational support. - Help channel teams evolve their stacks so foundational primitives stay flexible, robust, and ready for sophisticated use cases. - Mentor engineers through code review, architecture review, and pairing, connecting technical decisions to business outcomes. - Champion reliability and operability by improving observability, tightening error handling, and reducing division-wide incidents. - Design and build foundational systems, frameworks, and tooling that act as a force multiplier across the division.
Requirements - 10+ years of software engineering experience, including meaningful time influencing multiple teams or complex product systems. - Full-stack proficiency with modern frontend environments, particularly TypeScript and React, alongside backend experience. - Track record of designing and shipping foundational infrastructure such as frameworks, libraries, or platform services used by many other engineers. - Strong architectural judgment, knowing when to invest in abstraction and when to keep things simple. - Effective communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to translate technical debt into business risk. - Demonstrated ability to identify highest-leverage work and drive projects to completion through high ambiguity.
Nice to have - Experience building or maintaining shared component libraries or design system primitives. - Background with real-time systems or event-driven architectures related to message orchestration. - Experience with developer experience tooling such as code generation, scaffolding, or CI/CD for large codebases. - Experience maturing a product from early stage to enterprise scale without sacrificing developer velocity.
